Bust Holiday Stress
Author: Norma Schmidt, Coach, LLC
The holidays will be here before you know it. Clear the way for greater joy, love and meaning this year by busting these sources of holiday stress:

1. Too much to do in too little time.

*This week, set holiday priorities with your family. Discuss what traditions to keep, which to discard, and which new traditions to try.

*Make a holiday to-do list NOW and create a realistic schedule for when to accomplish each item.

*Avoid overscheduling.

*Ask family members for help with holiday tasks.

2. Long lines in stores.

*Shop via catalog or Internet, and avoid stores on weekends if you can.

*If you're shopping with small children, take along snacks, books, toys or other items to make waiting in line more pleasant. Or, if you're sufficiently uninhibited, sing a holiday song with your child.

*If you're shopping alone, use waiting time to relax and and center yourself with meditation or prayer. Try directing your attention to your breathing at your belly. Or practice observing the people around you through the eyes of compassion, without judging. Give thanks or pray for healing, peace, or other concerns close to your heart.

3. Difficult relatives.

*Take some quiet time to develop a plan for taking care of yourself around relatives who "get your goat."

*Invest in yourself by using a therapist to help create a plan to protect your boundaries.

4. Cranky kids.

*Think "low key" for a happy celebration with little ones. Remember that your small child thrives on your undivided attention and has a limited capacity to adjust to adult "needs" to hurry.

*Protect your child's naptime and playtime.

*Spend floor-time with your child every day.

5. Commercialism.

*Create family traditions that involve giving to those in need.

*Focus on low-cost or no-cost holiday traditions.

*Help keep children's expectations realistic. For example, you might say You'll get about the same amount of presents as you did on your birthday.

6. Bills!

*Decide on a holiday budget for entertaining and gifts.

* If credit cards make overspending too easy, stick to cash for holiday purchases.

7. Loss.

* If you have lost a loved one, the holidays may intensify your grief. Explore ways to cope at www.griefnet.org/library/articles/hfa-tips.html or www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?id=FL00055.

*If holiday blues persist or seem particularly intense, don't hesitate to reach out for professional help. Your physician or clergyperson can give you a referral.

8. Post-holiday let-down.

*Spread out the fun at least through the end of school vacation by planning an outing or a fun time at home for each day.

*Have a party and finish your leftover holiday sweets the night before school resumes.

A little forethought and planning can go a long way towards making you glad the holidays are coming - instead of just glad when they're over. Your wisdom holds the key to holiday joy.

Ayurveda - Principles & Practice

Ayurveda - Principles & Practice

Ayurveda which has been evolved around 600 BC, apart from treating ailments concentrated more in its prevention. This was followed by the Aryans & Dravidians who were inhabiting India and has been practiced ever since. In the 21st century, Ayurveda has become an indispensable branch of medicine due to its naturalistic approach, that depends on the diagnosis of ones physical base ie Vata, pitta and kabha, and to maintain a right balance.

One of the important principle of Ayurveda treatment is that , treatment is given not only to the ailments or the affected part, but to the person as a whole. 5-Minute Meditation: Light-Song
Author: Avalon De Witt
Sit quietly in a comfortable place with your eyes closed. Take a few deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Listening to the rhythm of your breath, feel your body relaxing from the top of your head, all the way down to the tips of your toes...

Begin to form a vivid picture in your mind. See before you a large golden chalice, spilling over with a pale green light. The soft glow of this light is calming to look at and seems to emanate a sound like a thousand angels singing...

Let this light-born music become clearer and more vibrant. Notice how the light-song harmonizes with your heart beat. You can sense a healing power in the lilting melody that is already making you feel lighter...

Visualize yourself reaching out with your hands cupped together and dipping into the green light as though it were a pool of cool water...

Now ease your hands toward your your heart center and let the green light gently penetrate you there. Allow this gentle green light to expand in your heart and throughout your body filling you with immense joy, bringing a smile to your face...

Feel the song of this light dancing within you, moving through your bloodstream, washing away all your stresses and worries. Observe the way your body responds to the comforting, harmonious music freeing your mind, balancing you...

Spend as long as you like reveling in the relaxation of this tender light-song. Hear it flowing through you, cleansing you completely. Enjoy the feelings of peace and contentment, and remember that you can take in this beautiful light song any time you wish...

Gradually deepen your breath and return to the moment. Bring your attention back to the room. Gently move your fingers and toes and slowly open your eyes. This is a wonderful way to release anxiety and lift your spirits any time of day.

Stress Management: A Self Help Guide
Author: Trevor Dumbleton
There have been many words written about stress management, though many people do not realize that it can be managed. In fact, stress is a scary thing but it is also a self-creating thing. The more stress you feel, the less able you are to deal with the things that are stressing you, causing the stress to increase. This is a vicious cycle and the key to stress management is to not get into it in the first place. How do you do that? Well, there are many ways.

One of the most effective methods for managing stress is through meditation. This is a simple method of simply focusing the mind on nothing instead of focusing on everything that is stressing you out. It is not some sort of mystic trance or mysterious method. In fact, it is a simple method to help you strengthen your mind and learn to focus on the task at hand. Though there are many deep levels of meditation, the best place to start is with simply closing your eyes and taking deep breaths while concentrating on your breathing. By paying attention to your breathing and really focusing on it, your mind will clear itself out and permit you to relax easily. This is best done every single day as a preventive measure rather than as a cure for stress. However, it can also be effective when you need to ditch some stress in a jiffy.

As well, stress management is possible through simple chores or hobbies. Either building a model airplane or organizing a coin collection or cleaning the kitchen will help you get your mind on a task rather than on everything that needs doing. The tasks will still be there later, but simply giving your mind something to focus on that is not stressful will help you cope with stress much better. This method of stress management is a sort of distraction for your mind. It moves your mind away from all the things that are cluttering it and organizes something in your life, even if it is just your CD collection. And organizing something is a nice way to get your mind off of everything in your life that is not organized.

Another way to manage stress in your mind is to take care of your body. Playing a sport, lifting weights or running is a good way to clear your mind and get healthy at the same time. Going out to the gym and, for instance, playing racquetball is a good way to get your mind away from things and change your focus for a little while. As well, by taking care of your body you are also cleansing toxins from your system, enabling you to clear your system of those pollutants that aren't doing your mind any good. So take care of your brain by taking care of your body and give yourself a nice little mental break.

Stress management is also possible simply by owning a pet. People who have pets such as dogs or cats or even fish can simply watch their pet or even play with their pets, giving them a nice little break from the regular stresses and strains of life. It has been shown that pets are actually better than spouses for relieving stress, as spouses have expectations of you. A pet, however, is going to love you no matter what and that is a nice thing to think about after a hard day of work. And petting a dog or cat has been shown to be very therapeutic. So, if you are stressed out all the time, it may be time to get yourself a pet in order to have a friendly face waiting for you whenever you walk in the door.

The final stress management technique here is probably the most important. That is to get some sleep. Let's face it, nobody gets enough sleep any more. People are usually getting at least two hours less than they need every night, putting them into serious sleep debt. This debt is going to have to be paid up sometime, but sleeping in on the weekends is not going to get it done. The adult body needs, on average, 8 hours of sleep every night, but most adults get about 6 hours. This does not do your body any good and it does not do your mind any good. In fact, it tends to weaken the mind and make it more susceptible to stress, which is exactly what you want to avoid. So get to bed early and make sure that you are getting the sleep you need every night.

Stress management is fairly easy once you get used to it. Unfortunately, most people do not create the proper stress management habits, causing them to spiral into stress constantly. By allowing yourself the breaks you need and by giving your mind the stress relief it demands, you can relax, stay focused, and keep stress away.

Anxiety & Panic Attacks - Two Steps to Begin the Healing Process
Author: Joanne King
Anxiety sufferers are usually at a loose end after trying methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Techniques, Hypnosis, Sessions with psychologists, Meditation, Herbal Alternatives and probably the most popular of them all is Medications such as anti-depressants and Benzodiazepine's.

Now I was no different to any other sufferer, I was pulling my hair out in the hopes of one of these alternatives would kick in and free me of this dreadful nightmare that I lived, day in and day out for years. Unable to leave my house in fear something dreadful was going to happen to me.

But after plenty of research I did eventually eliminate my anxiety and panic disorder. And it certainly wasn't from taking medications, or hypnosis or CBT or any of the worlds most practiced techniques (which have always given a rather poor response in curing anxiety and panic attacks).

Two Steps to Begin the Healing Process

Step One...

Acceptance

Accepting that what you have is Anxiety and Panic Disorder. And yes, I know this can be an extremely hard thing to accept. You're sure that it always must be something else, your heart is racing (you think that you must be having a heart attack). You're finding it difficult to swallow (so now your thoughts sway to you must have throat cancer). You find it difficult to breathe (and in that moment you're sure your going to pass out or die, or maybe you think you have lung cancer or emphysema). Yes, I know how these thoughts can take control of your mind.

But in order to become well again, you must accept all these feelings are, are anxiety and panic attacks.

Step Two…

Trust

I struggled with this issue a lot. And I certainly understand when you have lost all faith. After all, you've tried all these other techniques with little to no success. So you begin to wonder why "this time" would be any different to all the other methods you have tried to your wits end.

But the moment you give up all hope and lose trust in any other possible natural method, than this will be when you prevent you're healing and eliminating of Anxiety & Panic Disorder.

Anxiety and Panic Attacks can be eliminated naturally and for good! I'm living proof of that.

Anxiety Attacks
Author: Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN
What Is an Anxiety Attack?
Also known as a panic attack, an anxiety attack is characterized by intense episodes in which the sufferer experiences such symptoms similar to a heart attack such as heart palpitations, chest pain or discomfort, sweating, and trembling. They may be triggered by a stressful event or they may come on for no discernible reason. Anxiety attacks, and the fear of their occurrence, can prevent suffers from leading a normal life.

What Are The Symptoms Of An Anxiety Attack?
An anxiety attack is often mistaken for a heart attack as the symptoms are very similar. Increased heart and breathing rates, dry mouth, chest pains, loss of touch with reality, light-headedness, nausea, numbness or tingling in the extremities, sweating, and diarrhea are common symptoms of an anxiety attack.

What Causes Anxiety Attacks?
Anxiety attacks may be triggered by an illness or a stressful situation, or they may come on unexpectedly. The memory of a stressful event that occurred in the past can also cause an anxiety attack.

When To Get Help For Anxiety Attacks
Anxiety attacks can be very distressing and debilitating. Some sufferers have found supplements or home care techniques that allow them to manage anxiety attacks before they become a problem. But you may need to seek the help of a natural health care professional or licensed therapist if your anxiety attacks are interrupting your daily activities and preventing you from leading a normal life. Seek professional help immediately if you experience a sudden anxiety attack that you cannot control, or if you experience chest pain, sweating, difficulty breathing, or pain in your jaw, neck and arm during an attack.

Preventing Anxiety Attacks
Exercise: Any cardiovascular exercise that increases your heart rate is a good way to reduce anxiety and the stress that may cause an anxiety attack. Walking, swimming, biking, Pilates and aerobics are good choices.

Relaxation: Practicing relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation may help to alleviate anxiety and provide tools for controlling symptoms during an anxiety attack.

Avoid Certain Substances: Avoid using substances such as drugs, alcohol, and coffee that can contribute to or aggravate the symptoms of anxiety.

Dietary Changes: Many people have found that eating a vegetarian diet can decrease feelings of anxiety. Red meat, in particular, releases stress hormones within the body. Whole grains, on the other hand, release endorphins that promote a sense of well being.

Managing an Anxiety Attack
Herbs: Herbs have been used for thousands of years to treat both physical and mental illnesses. There are several herbs that can be used to decrease anxiety and reduce the symptoms of anxiety attacks. Talk with your health care professional before you try any new herbs or herbal combinations. Herbs known as adaptogens, such as ginseng, (Panax ginseng), wild yam (Dioscorea villosa), borage (Borago officinalis), licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), milk thistle (Silybum marianum), and nettle (Urtica dioica) may help to alleviate anxiety attacks. Other herbs that may be helpful include:

Chamomile: (Matricaria chamomilla) This herb is often associated with relaxation. It may be helpful in reducing anxiety.

Kava: (Piper methysticum) Kava is helpful for mild anxiety.

St John's Wort: (Hypericum perforatum) St John's Wort has been used for many years to help promote an overall sense of well being and reduce stress and anxiety.

Supplements: As with herbs, check with your health care provider before introducing any new supplements to your diet.

5-HTP: (5-hydroxytryptophan) This supplement is a mood lifter that may help to promote restful sleep and decrease anxiety.

Inositol: Inositol may be helpful in decreasing anxiety with long term use.

Treatment Methods:

Acupuncture: Anxiety causes tension that disrupts the flow of the qi. Acupuncture can help to restore harmony and induce a state of deep relaxation.

Mental Exercises: Meditation, guided imagery, art, music, and other mental exercises are a useful way to reduce stress and promote relaxation in your life.

Relaxation Techniques: Slow, diaphragmatic breathing and conscious muscle relaxation can help to manage stress by calming the body and clearing the mind of stressors.

Aromatherapy: Essential oils of lavender, chamomile, geranium, rose, neroli, sweet marjoram, and ylang-ylang are commonly recommended for stress relief. They help to reduce anxiety and tension and can be used in a massage, added to a bath, or inhaled through a vaporizer.

Massage: A regular massage in which the practitioner uses such techniques as rubbing, kneading, and pummeling, can be very beneficial in the management of anxiety attacks. It can help to increase blood circulation, reduce pain, and relieve muscle tension. Massage also help to release endorphins, substances that have a mood-enhancing effect.

Meditation: A Beginner's Guide
Author: Christin Snyder
Meditation: A Beginner's Guide
by Christin Snyder

*The material presented in this article is provided for information purposes only and is not intended to diagnose or prevent any illness.

In my article "Self-Healing Basics" I briefly discussed meditation and it's important role in whole-being wellness. Meditation has an abundance of benefits, but can appear daunting to newcomers due to the many misconceptions surrounding it. Through this series of articles I will explore the art of meditation in depth- addressing misconceptions, highlighting the benefits, answering frequently asked questions, and also sharing different techniques.

I believe very deeply in the power each person has to heal themselves. Meditation is one of several tools I teach to empower others on their quest for spiritual and personal growth. I have found that many who have comitted themselves to developing the practice have reported dramatic results. Many have shared with me an enhanced sense of purpose, reduced stress and anxiety levels, and other life altering changes. There are numerous types and styles of meditation, and with persistence and practice everyone can find one to benefit them.

Meditation Myths:

There are many misconceptions and generalizations in regards to meditation that unfortunately keep many people from trying it. Before going into all of the benefits and techniques, I feel it is necessary to first address some of these issues. In doing so, I hope to provide a better understanding of just how simple and worthwhile meditation can be.

One common misunderstanding surrounding meditation is the belief that it is religious in nature. Although it is incorporated into the religious practice in many traditions, it is not in and of itself, religious in nature. Neither is it reserved to any one faith system. Many people from a variety of cultures and traditions successfully integrate meditation into their lives without conflict.

Another commonly held belief is that meditation requires a lot of time to achieve results, however, as I will demonstrate later on, it truly does not require hours of rigid daily practice to be effective. Most of us do have busy lives, and meditation is an act that can be effectively incorporated into any lifestyle. Is it a discipline? yes. It needs to be developed into a routine, much in the same way that walking the dog or going to the market are also established as routines. The benefits will be well worth the few minutes a day invested.

Last but not least, is the misconception that the mind must be void of all thoughts for meditation to be effective. The key in meditation is not necessarily to "empty" the mind, but to gain control of the mind, to know and understand where it travels and why. The main goal of meditation is to "know thyself" and by learning the hidden motivations and reasons behind our seemingly random thoughts we begin to do just that. The process aids in removing random mind chatter, and streamlining the thought process.

If you are paying attention, you will notice that as you read this, your mind has likely churned up several thoughts that have popped up as you have gone along. If you haven't noticed this, you are not alone. Many never really pay attention to just how much "noise" the mind makes. The simple act of paying attention and noticing is a first stage of a positive meditative practice. Through dedication we learn to sift through the noise and retrieve what is necessary and beneficial to us on our path. We are better able to slow the mind down, which in turn reduces stress and anxiety.

Meditation is a practice that costs little to nothing and can benefit anyone willing to put some time and effort into it. It requires no special talents , merely the desire to grow and learn. For those seeking a more fulfilling and rewarding life experience, meditation offers a simple but powerful method to pursue personal and spiritual growth. Throughout the rest of this series I will share answers to common questions, explore the many benefits, and detail some different meditation techniques that can be modified to each persons unique preferences.

Cleansing & Balancing the Charkas
Author: Christin Snyder
Cleansing & Balancing the Charkas & Energy Field

By Christin Snyder

Cleansing and balancing the chakra system is important to the overall health of the individual. There are several different techniques that can be used to cleanse and balance each of the charkas. The important thing is finding the one that is most comfortable. The exercise below is simple. It can be done in a few minutes. Practiced each day, it will leave the individual feeling more energetic and focused.

The technique that follows can be modified by the individual to suit his/her own needs. Start off by sitting in a chair or standing somewhere comfortable with your feet flat on the ground/floor. It is particularly important to sit or stand if you are new to meditation practices. Laying down cues the body that it is time for sleep.

Once you are positioned, take a few deep but slow cleansing breaths. The idea isn't to gasp for air, nor is it to breathe unnaturally, but to get the blood deeply oxygenated. Breath is a natural healing mechanism, and many of us in the west will find that we breathe in a very shallow manner which starves our bodies and brain of oxygen. Breathe in at a slow steady pace and feel the oxygen enter your body, continue the slow steady inhale until the breath has expanded the chest and abdomen just as a balloon fills with air.

Hold the breath for as long as it is comfortable, and then release and do the exhale at the same slow relaxed pace, blowing through the lips as though you were blowing out a candle. Be sure to fully empty the lungs before beginning the next inhalation.

After three of these breaths release tension and relax more deeply. Take a few comfortable normal paced breaths as you do this. Once you are comfortable and ready to continue, close the eyes and envision a golden white ball of light above the head. This is the holy light, representing the connection between yourself and the Divine.

This ball of light sits a few feet above the top of the head and begins to expand and stream down. As you allow the light to flow (don't force or pull it etc) relax even deeper knowing you are safe and at peace. Be fully present with this light, and as the light descends down upon the crown of your head take another deep breath as we did earlier.

As you breathe in say in your mind "I allow the light to heal, cleanse and balance"". On the exhale say "I release all that is not for my highest good"". Relax and allow the light to move down to the third eye (between the eyebrows) when it is ready, then repeat the breath and mantra on both the inhale and the exhale.

Continue this process slowly and let it flow naturally all the way down your chakra system until it reaches the soles of the feet. When it has reached the soles of the feet, envision a ball of energy from in the Earth rising up slowly into the soles of your feet. Allow this energy to carry away any residual energies that need to be cleansed and take them back into the Earth for reprocessing/healing.

As you continue to relax say a prayer of gratitude. Take a few moments to sincerely reflect on all of your life's blessings and to show appreciation to Spirit for all the abundance that is housed within you. The important thing to remember is that you are a channel allowing these powerful energies to flow through you. You don't have to have any special talent or abilities to benefit from this healing as "you" are not doing it, but allowing Spirit/God to do this through you. It is an exercise of "allowing"

Another variation others enjoy, is to do this meditation while in the shower. As you feel the water washing over you, you can envision your energy field also being cleansed and balanced. The water as it goes down the drain, carries away all negativity and extra energy.

For grounding and healing also participate in activities that put you in direct contact with the Earth, walk barefoot in the grass, sit with your back against a tree, plant a garden, (this is healing to your Earth mother as well) anything that puts you in contact with nature is deeply rejuvenating and healing.

Chakras 101
Author: Sam Stevens
The chakras are different coloured energy centres that originate from seven different points in our body. Chakra is a Sanskrit (East Indian) word that means "Wheel". For millennia the chakras have been visualized as round balls, blossoms or spheres of light that can open, close, darken, brighten and spin! The location of each of the seven chakras represents a different aspect of human experience. Our emotions, ability to connect with others and physical health are thought to be reflected in the condition of each chakra.
Seeing your own chakras requires mental focus and powers of meditation. Remember these are imaginary entities that were invented by great mystics thousands of years before medical technology. The manipulation of these spheres or wheels of light, particularly the brightening and opening of them is thought, by many, to relieve a variety of ailments.
There are seven main chakra centres in the human body and the correspond with the seven colours of the rainbow or light spectrum:
The Red Chakra, also often referred to as the Root, First or Base chakra is at the base of the trunk of the body and is thought to correspond to the sex drive and to primal drives such as the desire to procreate, survive and destroy. This is the chakra to work on if you are having troubles with your health.
The Orange Chakra, sometimes called the Second, Sexual or Spleen chakra is in the abdomen and relates to the lower digestive organs. It corresponds to our ability to physically digest and eliminate food, emotionally digest events and process them in a healthy way and emotions such as joy or affection. This is the chakra to work on if you are having trouble letting go.
The Yellow Chakra, sometimes called the Third, Stomach or Solar plexus chakra is located in the upper stomach area just below the rib cage. It is the centre where we connect to others on an astral level and it relates to our abilities to transform or manifest events.
The Green Chakra is located in the chest and is related to the lungs and heart. It is sometimes called the Fourth or Heart chakra. It represents the flow of energy and flow of love in our lives as well as our ability to connect to others.
The Blue Chakra, sometimes called the Fifth, Thyroid or Throat chakra relates to the immune system, the regulation of hormones. It represents our ability to communicate effectively with others as well as creative and personal expression.
The Indigo Chakra, sometimes known as the Sixth chakra or the Third Eye, is located just slightly above and between the eyebrows on the forehead. It is related to the pituitary gland and mental and spiritual processes, as well as intuition, second sight.
The Violet Chakra, also sometimes known as the Crown chakra, the Seventh chakra, the White chakra or the lotus chakra is located at the top of the head. It is thought to be the gateway or connection to the spirit world, ascended masters and the higher self. It is the receptor of divine wisdom and divine inspiration.
When functioning well, the chakras are thought to be a conduit for the constant flow of energy through out our bodies. If these chakras are blocked, slowed in their spinning, darkened or not working, then you can correct this imbalance by imagining them being cleared from negative energies such as resentment, fear or trauma. Tuning up your chakras can make an enormous difference to your sense of well-being in general as they conduct the natural flow of energy through our bodies. Chakras that are blocked are thought to cause physical disease and emotional and spiritual dis-ease. Common blockages are negative emotions, the desire to hurt, being emotionally hurt, and the holding on to of fears and resentment and sometimes past life issues. The chakras interact with each other in a constant dancing of the spheres that extends outside our bodies. They exist in a constant state of renewal that can be enhanced by meditation, creative visualization, light working and breath work.

Introduction to Ayurveda
Author: Janet Male

Natural Health just about sums it up! Good health should be natural. Drug companies are relying on us to increase their business. Don't let them get a look in! Look after your birthright, which is perfect health.

The easiest way to do this is by following an ayurvedic lifestyle. This is an ancient health care system based on keeping yourself well by following a healthy lifestyle. Sounds simple, doesn't it? The truth always is!

People often visit ayurvedic doctors when they are well. By a simple pulse diagnosis the doctor can tell if there are any deep seated imbalances which could lead to disease. If this is the case then simple lifestyle changes are advised.

The danger is thus averted before it arrives!

As you can see this is the opposite of modern medicine. So many of us abuse our bodies then rush to the doctor only when we become ill.

This would seem ludicrous to a follower of ayurveda!

An ayurvedic lifestyle is an enjoyable one. It advocates staying in harmony with the laws of nature. This means getting plenty of rest, having a healthy, pure diet and taking enjoyable exercise. Meditation is recomended. If there are some imbalances in the system healing herbs may be recommended.

Ayurveda, a sanskrit word, means "science of health and longevity"

According to this science every person has a unique body type [prakriti]. Roughly these divide into three types, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. However, combinations of one, two or all three types are possible.

Each type is prone to different ailments. This doesn't mean they'll get them. They just need to take more care in certain areas.

For example, vata types are often anxious, pittas angry, and kaphas far too laid back!

I have heard it said that after a meal a vata type should lie down and rest, pittas go for a walk, and kaphas wash the dishes.

I'm sure the kapha types will object to that!

As the title says this is just an introduction to ayurveda. However, I hope I've whetted your appetite!

Simple Exercises for Meditation & Relaxation
Author: Universal Psychic Guild
Modern city living piles on the stress in every conceivable way, with the fast pace of living we all have, stress slowly builds up creating headaches, stiffness in the neck and back, high blood pressure, indigestion and so on.
Physical stress will leave the body uptight and tense, diminishing the appetite and the ability to sleep.

Mental stress is much more serious, for when we are mentally stressed, the adrenal glands are activated and adrenalin is pumped into our body, giving us continous energy. Unfortunately overworking the adrenal glands due to constant mental pressure will, in the long run, create a serious break down in your physical and mental health.

The following exercises aim to relax any physical tension and stress, they are simple exercises to do and will relax and calm you .

* First get your self comfortable, select something to lay on, make sure it is not to soft or hard, roll up three towels, place one under your knees, the small of your back, make sure it is not to high and that it does not create an arch in your back, although it must give you support, and the last towel is placed under your neck.

* Make sure the room is quiet and warm, your clothes must be loose and comfortable.
Now, take a deep breathe and while holding the breathe in, tense every muscle in your body as hard and tight as you can, increase the tension as much as you can, then breathing out, relax totally. Wait a few seconds, and repeat the process, focus on the words Let go, Relax. Do this up to four times.

You will feel your body sag as the tension releases, there will be a pleasant sensation of tiredness.

* Next, you may wish to do this to each part of your body, start with your feet, squeeze and relax working up your body next do your calves, thighs, buttocks, hips , stomach, shoulders, hands, arms and neck, squeeze each part several times tightly on the in breathe , hold , then relax on the out breathe.

This technique relaxes muscles, increase blood and lymph flow and brings a general well-being to the physical body.

Once you have achieved this relax physical state, then it is time to help unwind on a mental level, the following is a simple meditation that you may wish to follow.

* Make sure your clothes are loose and comfortable.
* The room is quite and dim, with no draughts to distract you.
* Sit in a straight-backed chair or lay on the bed and for two minutes, relax yourself and breath slowly and deeply.
* Close your eyes,
* Choose a word, for example peaceful, then breathing in deeply through your nose, focus on (peace), then slowly breathing out through your mouth, focus on (ful)
* Continue this for several minutes or for as long as you wish,

You will find that when you have completed the exercises, that you will be totally relaxed and balanced, if practiced regularly you will note an improvement in you general well-being and ability to cope with any stress in your life.

Hypnosis and Spiritual Development
Author: Alan Tutt
Hypnosis and Spiritual Development
by Alan Tutt
http://www.KeysToPower.com

Hypnosis has a strong reputation for being an excellent tools for changing habits. It is also a popular stage show activity that results in some facinating displays of mental manipulation. Many psychologists will also use hypnosis as a means for treating mental dysfunction. And success coaches will use hypnosis for aiding in personal development. But hypnosis can be used for even greater purposes than these, including spiritual development.

The process of hypnosis is relatively easy, which is surprising to most, considering the power that is associated with this phenomenon. In short, the process is one of distracting the conscious mind long enough to implant alternate suggestions to the inner mind. Many people think that hypnosis is a process of putting the conscious mind asleep, but this is a common misconception of hypnosis. Hypnosis is not sleep, but rather a form of tightly focused concentration.

Many spiritual traditions use meditation as a vehicle for development. Meditation too, is a process of focusing the mind, but usually at a lower level of intensity. This lower level of intensity makes meditation easier for the individual to attain and control. Once the mind is focused to the degree common in hypnosis, the ability to direct the course of activity is usually lost. This is one of the major difficulties in trying to use hypnosis by yourself. To reach a deep level, you have to have an outside source of direction.

But there are relatively simple methods of overcoming this difficulty.

Having another person direct you through the process is a common method. This is the way many of us view hypnosis - as a process of one person leading another through a series of steps. If this person is trustworthy, and has a solid grounding in psychology and the spiritual beliefs you hold, then this is the best option, as any variation that comes up during the process of hypnosis can be dealt with effectively.

If your purpose of using hypnosis were to stop smoking, lose weight, control procrastination, or a host of many other common goals, then you would be able to use one of the many pre-recorded hypnotic tapes that are being sold on the market. Unfortunately, there aren't many hypnotic recordings for spiritual development, and the ones that do exist are somewhat expensive (the ecomonics of supply and demand in action).

It is possible to create your own hypnotic recordings, and by doing this you also end up with a hypnotic session that is custom tailored to your exact goals. Using a recording device, such as a tape recorder, mini-disc recorder, or MP3 device, you can record a series of steps that you intend to follow while in the hypnotic state. This way, you can create your own hypnotic program that will help you acheive the exact results you want.

But what do you record to create a hypnotic session for spiritual development? Beyond the basics of directing yourself to relax your physical body, focus your mind through a series of steps to attain the level of focus required, and the ending sequence of coming back to normal consciousness, the progression of the working session can follow a number of different formats.

Spiritual growth and development takes many forms depending on the culture in which you live. The content of the hypnotic session depends greatly on the belief system of the person undertaking it. If you believe that spiritual growth takes place when you live according to a prescribed set of rules without deviation, then you would use hypnosis to instill a 'natural' tendency to live according to those rules. This is the same as the habit control usage of hypnosis applied to those habits seen as being spiritual. Your recording will be a series of statements such as "You enjoy ....." and "You will always .......".

If you believe that spiritual development takes place when you are able to make a strong connection to a higher power, then you would use hypnosis to find and control the inner mechanisms responsible for making that connection. (Incidentally, this is my belief regarding spiritual development.) In this format, hypnosis becomes a 'practice session' for learning how to make that connection better and stronger. Your recording will generally be a guided daydream in which you take the actions which lead to the stronger connection.

And if you believe that spiritual growth and development happens as you become more like the Supreme Being, then you would use hypnosis to create whatever internal changes that need to happen to bring yourself closer to that state. This format of hypnosis is a combination of the other two formats.

Kundalini and 'Going where we're supposed to go'
Author: Robert Morgen
In the early 90's I had a spontaneous Kundalini Awakening after a near death experience, which I wrote about in a different article. Here's what happened next.
After I got out of the hospital after my injury, and even during my stay there, I felt that I was extremely different. At the time I accounted it to just being glad to still be alive, and for over a decade I never thought anything more about it.
Yet the fact was that I did feel extremely different and I felt driven to pursue meditation and other avenues that I'd always had a vague interest in, but never really pursued.
Now it was an imperative, so I began reading everything I could find. Unfortunately I wasn't finding much that was useful. It was about a year later that I discovered "Pathnotes of an American Ninja Master" by Dr. Glenn Morris.
It was the first I'd ever heard of kundalini, Reiki, Chi Kung and Therapeutic Touch. Within a few days I discovered a Chi Kung class near where I lived in Ft. Lauderdale and was able to barter some dreamcatchers and other odds and ends for some classes.
My teacher there was also a Reiki Master, so he introduced me to Reiki also.
Over the next decade I floundered around (or so I thought) and worked a wide variety of jobs and studied a strange variety of classes in school, as well as spent a large amount of time out in the mountains or hiding out in the desert and just communing and doing various types of energy work.
A couple of years ago while living up in Glenwood Springs, CO I was again drawn to get deeper into my energy work, and entered a period of intense yoga, Reiki, chi kung and meditation.
One night while meditating I had a vision of a lotus flower, but the vision included the flower, the stem and the roots.
The meaning was instantly obvious and I easily connected my energy and felt a rush up my spine and out through the top of my head.
Over the next few months I went through a period that I can only describe as a karmic clean-out.
Any unresolved issue that I didn't properly deal with would keep popping up over and over until I dealt with it calmly and from my center.
I had my drivers license revoked twice (during a period when I was just being hired by UPS, blew the engines on 3 vehicles and had a tortured series of bureaucratic battles.
I had strange energy surges as my body re-wired itself and had energy releases that sent me to massage therapists and other Reiki practitioners to have cleaned out.
Some of this still happens, and probably always will.
I also went through a period of balancing my chakras, and I can look back at my life in various periods and see what chakra I was in.
After a few months I started trying to get away from it all. I stopped doing my yoga and meditation and entered a period that I can only describe as a mental hell. I later learned that even then I was balancing out my light and dark sides (but that's a new posting).
After a few months of this I finally realized that the best way to deal with all this was to *quit trying to deal with it and JUST ACCEPT IT*.
Once I began relaxing into myself and wasn't fighting the changes as much, I began to really feel a deep connection to the other energy around me.
Cities like Denver drove me nuts, and a casual drive through the mountains (my buddy Jeff called them 'medicine drives') would turn into an hours long meditation as I could feel the energy of all the trees and the world around me as I passed through.
It was still a time of healing and I carried around a damaged feeling that was gradually lessening as I became more relaxed.
At the time I was living in an old RV and just traveling around. I went back to Albuquerque for the winter and, even though things were still hard, I was learning to feel better.
Then one day in February I suddenly realized that I was still working against myself.
I made a silent affirmation that I would quit working so hard at this, and that I was just going to relax, have fun and enjoy each moment and see where I was supposed to go next.
A couple of days later I got a message from Jeff that Dr. Glenn Morris (whom I'd had a chance to finally meet at a metaphysical fair the previous October) wanted me to come up for a weekend and assist with the booth at another metaphysical fair.
So back I came to Denver, and a weekend of volunteer work turned into a temporary partnership in a nonprofit and my helping with several of his kundalini awakening seminars.
My training with Glenn opened up a vast world of new experiences and showed me that so many parts of my life actually made sense, and opened the way for the healing and growth that I so badly needed.
Along the way I remembered that every time I had a problem or needed some direction I could just relax and affirm to go wherever I was supposed to.
The lesson for me was to have a little faith, and that having faith will work only if you commit to it and then let it happen.
Even now I continue to affirm that I'll go wherever I'm supposed to go and do whatever it is that I'm supposed to do, and so far I've ALWAYS had the guidance I needed within a couple of days.
I hope this helps some of you who may be struggling with some aspects of this. This is obviously an ongoing process that's moving into it's second decade and probably will never be 'finished', but at least I'm learning to enjoy the ride and go where I'm supposed to.

'Manufacturing Consent' and Hypnosis
Author: Robert Bruce Baird
Noam Chomsky's 'Manufacturing Consent':

When Chomsky speaks about "thought control in a democratic society" is he properly called a Conspiracy Theorist? Is there a real plan that our leaders have? Does it go as far as what FDR said when he noticed 'If it happened, it was planned'? As I often say throughout all my books – 'If there is no plan; we need one. Let's make it a plan or conspiracy based on Love.' Chomsky was the educational and psychological guru for many years before he got a conscience after seeing the way his Neuro-Linguistic-Programming was used by government agencies and the medical model. He may not yet be telling the truth of what he knows about these things. Maybe he is not aware of the applications in conjunction with the work of Dr. Michael Persinger but in listening to his speeches a couple of times I say he is very much aware of the underlying ethos that rules our world.

HYPNOTIC METHODS IN MEDIA:

This is an entry from one volume of my Encyclopedia. The mind and the soul have ways of integrating that we have carried on a great length about under diverse entries such as Thalami, Aum (Om) and wholistic medical advances or Cancer cures. Under magnetism we mentioned Mesmer who is considered the 'Father of Hypnosis' by many. Hypnosis is just another way to achieve an altered state of consciousness like meditation or good sex. Like many avenues to the soul and away from the control of those who would keep us in the dark and treat us like mushrooms (feeding us the excrement of animals they think are as low as 'they' truly are); hypnotism has suffered the attacks of many well-respected 'experts'. It has shown it has validity and value despite this often frontal assault on what actually 'works'! The power of positive thinking became a major part of the culture and self-help genre in the 70s and it is a form of hypnosis sometimes.

"Hypnosis is a level of consciousness that is being neither awake nor asleep. Hypnosis is a state of heightened suggestibility normally characterized by focused or concentrated attention and often bodily relaxation. Music, focusing on deep breathing, isolation tanks, meditation, focusing on a word such as 'calm' over and over, running, massage, saunas, even warm baths can alter consciousness. {Fasting can accentuate any INTENT, as well.}

Any atmosphere that encourages imagery can alter consciousness. This may include:
*The scent of burning incense
*Lighting effects with flickering candles in darkness, stained glass windows
*Emotion-arousing music, repetitive sounds, chanting
*Symbolism with specific architectural designs, decor with pictures and ornate carvings, robes, etc.
*Point of fixation such as an altar, picture, candle flame, or cross
*Ceremony with certain rituals
*Sermon with repetitive ideas or sounds and specific voice inflections
*Silent meditation with eyes closed, focusing attention away from the outer world to the inner world of the mind

Any and all of these factors {Plus repetitive propaganda and peer expectation.} may aid the creation of an altered state of consciousness, which some people call the superconscious state of a 'higher self' state. The unfortunate fact is that this state also is capitalized on by more than 5,000 cults in America, which exploit followers under the guise of healing, personal growth, and self-actualization.

My most memorable show of the eighties was at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) in Vancouver, British Columbia. We held 33 evening concerts in 17 days. More than 50,000 people saw our presentations with up to 5,000 spectators at a single performance. The shows were done on a huge stage that was often over-crowded even though it could hold more than 200 people.

The expectancy of the crowd reached the point where I could walk on stage and within
seconds have 50 to 100 people collapse in seconds and fall to the floor. All I had to do was go to the center of the stage, look over the entire crowd, raise my right hand and simultaneously drop it, and in a commanding voice shout 'Sleep'. This was a quick way to get the show moving, and that was important for full entertainment impact. The audience couldn't get enough of the show and enjoyed the humor the volunteers' antics created much more than how the actual hypnosis worked." (7)

Improving Meditation
Author: Dale Power
If you have ten years to sit at the bottom of a dark cave you can really master meditation. Short of that you could enroll in a monastery and devote your life to contemplation. Perhaps you would rather move to India and become a yogi?

For a long time such extreme techniques and lifestyle changes have been the only way to really do what we have wanted in regards to psychic power and ability. Even if you are willing to do it though, it has been kind of hard to find someone you can trust to push food through the little slot in the door each day or pay for the plane ticket.

Most people have an innate feeling that if they could just concentrate a little harder, go just a little deeper into their own minds, they would be able to unleash incredible power. All reliable reports say that they are right to believe this. Most people also find it hard to set aside an hour for meditation, never mind ten years.

Here is a simple method that can take the place of that ten year journey inside yourself. You still have to pay attention and use discipline to get where you wish to be, but you will speed things up several hundreds times, reaching levels of meditation that many have thought could not be reached at all and certainly not by city dwelling folk like most of us!

The concept here is a bit circular. You use what meditative skills you have to generate a psychic field, which will carry your mind into a deeper and more focused state. In that deeper state you reinforce the psychic field, which will drive you deeper still.

When you reach the state you wish you simply set the psychic field to resonate with that level of thought and you will easily maintain your place.

I am not suggesting that anyone give up their meditative practices and move to only this technique. Think of this as more of a tool to help you speed up your progress, rather than a complete program. After all, no single tool will ever replace self-discipline for getting things done. It also never hurts to give new skills an honest try, if you wish to perform at a higher level.

Some of these steps will take a little work to perfect, but don't let feeling a little shaky on one or two of them stop you though, as this method has a tendency to work itself into a consistently stronger format on its own!

So lets get started.

*Allow your mind to quite. If you have meditative skills, begin by going into yourself as deeply as you can. If you are new to meditation, just try to make the inside of your head feel quiet and hollow. Don't worry about doing it correctly. Just acknowledge any thoughts coming in and set them aside for a few minutes.

*In this quiet space, you will want to focus on the feeling of your mind moving into a deeper place. It is important that you focus on the "feeling" or the raw "knowing" of what you want. Try not to dwell on particulars. Your subconscious mind will get you where you need to be, you are just providing the basic suggestion to go there. At this point you will have automatically begun to form a psychic information field around your mind.

*Now we will begin to program the information field. First you will want to define the physical parameters of the field. Let it surround your head and hold for about twenty seconds the idea that it will stay within this general area. This will prevent you from effecting those around you overly much.

*Once the space of operations has been determined, we can move into the content of the information. We want three different but linked things for this one field. First, "know" without words or pictures that this field will hold itself together well. This will make it self-sustaining and consistent. Second, "feel" yourself going deeper and becoming more synchronized in brainwave pattern. If you don't know what that should feel like, just "know" that that is the goal. This is something your mind has a natural talent for, it already knows how to do it, you just need to let it know what you want done! Finally you will want to place a general guideline as to how deep you wish to go. While you are in little real danger from this technique, as you can always shake it off, or better reset the field to reflect the mindset and level you wish to be at, it is possible to go so deep that you will have trouble remembering what else you wished to do once you got there!

To release the field, simply hold the concept of it dispersing for a few seconds. You should be able to sense the state of the information/psychic field fairly easily at this point.

In general it is better to practice meditation for a while before jumping into this technique. Knowledge of what deeper mental states feel like will help you in bringing them back later.

If you take just a bit of time, and make the effort, you can make faster progress in your meditative practices by using psychic skills than you can without. This technique is simple to use, true, but it also delivers as promised. You can hold the field and continue to go as deeply as you wish. Once you are where you want to be, you can stay there, with very little effort. By increasing your ability to synchronize your mind and focus on a greater level, with improved consistency, you can increase the effectiveness of your psychic work by many times.

Four Powerful Pathways Into The Light And Sound Of Oneness
Author: Judith Pennington
The easiest, most exciting adventure in consciousness follows the lamplit guidance of the still, small voice in each of us. In the quiet of meditation, we listen to our souls and hear what is most needed in our lives and how best to obtain it. This wise, kindly voice never fails us and never falters.

There is no substitute for inner listening. But in our travels, these four pathways emerge to enhance our joy and draw us into the Oneness.

See which of these harmonic pathways resonates best with you: thought and word, self-knowledge, inner peace, or chanting and toning. All work together, as individual notes or as a chord, to transport us into the beauty and music of higher consciousness--the light and sound of Universal Mind, or God.

1. The power of thought and word. When our ideal is peace, healing or prosperity, and we say or do something out of alignment with this, we sense, feel or know it. The discord itself keeps us on track and guides us back into oneness with ourselves, others and Spirit. The great psychic-healer Edgar Cayce, who said that "Thoughts are crimes or miracles," lovingly advised everyone to create an ideal by which to live. This is best done in meditation, so that the soul voice may show us what is needed most. For you, is it peace, joy, self-discipline, will, oneness or something else altogether?

If a single word floats up when you ask this question, create with this word an affirmative phrase or sentence, then go back into the silence to see if it is good and right for you. When it is, post your ideal somewhere and, during meditation, use it as a mantra to draw your busy mind back into the silence. This will build your ideal into your life. When the words of your ideal no longer have a "shine," or "go dead" for you, you have incorporated this quality and it's time to return to meditation for a fresh ideal.

Every time you think or speak your ideal, you are physically attuning your body-mind to it, so be sure it's a spiritual intention that will uplift you! Ideals are blueprints with which we build our lives, whether we know it or not! If you aren't convinced that your thoughts, words and emotions influence the physical world around you, you might find these stories very interesting.

Last November I attended an historic conference in Virginia Beach that featured the physicists and U.S. military personnel at the center of America's research on remote viewing, termed "anomalous perception" or "anomalous perturbation" (psychic receiving or influencing) by these methodical thinkers. One of the presenters was the famous remote viewer and artist Ingo Swann, who reminded us that thoughts, as vibrations, are heard and felt by all sentient beings, including house plants!

At a party in New York City, Swann met Cleve Baxter, who later authored the classic book, The Secret Life of Plants, and visited Baxter's home to participate in experiments. Baxter had hooked up lie detector electrodes to the leaves of ordinary house plants, and every time Swann struck a match, the readout jumped sharply in reaction. After awhile, the reactions stopped and Swann asked why. "The plant knows you're bluffing!" Baxter told him. And so it did, as illustrated time and again in Baxter's landmark book.

In other experiments, Baxter and Swann took skin scrapings and drops of blood from a man and put them in a vial hooked up to the same electrodes. The readouts consistently jumped when the man was poked with a pin, even when he was five blocks away! (See the second edition of my e-zine, OneWorld, for a series of eye-opening articles and interviews from this amazing conference.)

That we are all one body, one mind is indisputable. Yet we so easily forget and doubt how our thoughts and words affect everyone-and everything-else, including our own bodies and minds.

2. The power of self-knowledge. My still, small voice has said for the past 16 years that releasing darkness enables us to attract and hold more light, and recently, DNA experiments carried out by a Russian scientist proved definitively that this is true. It's intuitively verifiable as well, and a phenomenon that we can physically feel as it takes place.

Here's how to bypass your ego, which I call a "hero in its own mind," and awaken to what you need to know about yourself. Every time you find yourself angry, frustrated or in conflict with someone else, "Stand back and watch yourself go by," as Cayce so vividly advised. "Know Thyself," emblazoned on the temples of Greek mystery schools, is the key to conscious evolution. If we do not undertake this journey, we are not really conscious at all.

I was taught this by my meditative writings, and as I traced my discordant words and actions back to their source-fear of inadequacy and a crippling lack of self-love-I was able to see and correct the destructive patterns of behavior that drove me to addictive decisions and ways of life. I could actually feel my burdens growing lighter, as my pain, sorrow and yearning gave way to increased amounts of light in my body-mind.

What fascinated me most was the correlation of this "en-lightenment" to sound: with each stride forward, I could hear my singing voice becoming ever more resonant and beautiful! I can still hear the difference in my voice, in shifting from one state of consciousness to another, and especially in singing with other spiritual seekers, wherein everyone's voice grows more harmonious, resonant and beautiful. I concluded that the high frequencies of love bring us into our blossoming literally and in response to our deepest desires.

3. The power of inner peace. Silent meditation, by building up the divine currents of energy within us, is the single most effective way to heal and transform the body-mind. These currents, containing the light and sound of God, tune up our bodies through the chakra system, or "wheels of energy," as Cayce called them. He said, and virtually all medical intuitives have seen, that these seven energy centers connect the spiritual dimensions with our endocrine glands, located at major nerve centers. The chakras, powered-up like frequency transformers with multi-level circuits, step our energy up or down.

You can feel this happen during meditation, and the longer you meditate, the more sensitive you become to these subtle energies, which carry us into the Oneness. I experience this oneness not only as a sense of love for and connection with others, but also as oneness with my highest mental clarity, creativity and intuition. After 16 years of regular practice, I emerge from every meditation, brief or lengthy, feeling more centered, grounded and in attunement with my true self. Going within kindles the divine spark in us so that we may know and speak the truth of who we are-and, in this, reach out to others in love, compassion and service.

A calm, peaceful sense of oneness is critical to our evolution; otherwise, we volley back and forth from one state of consciousness to another without ever really knowing what is real and what is not. I experience this shifting consciousness when I don't meditate every day. The slippage is all too apparent to me, and unfortunately, to others around me as well.

When I do return to meditation, I am amazed at the consistently gentle, loving voice of my heart, which does not complain when I skip my contemplative time, but waits patiently for me to return. Recently, while in deep meditation, I heard a quiet little voice say, "I am too hurried." Upon engaging in a pen-and-paper dialogue with my heart and mind, I learned that both want and need the restful peace of meditation.

This makes sense, doesn't it? It is in the Oneness that both are energized and made more vibrant and whole. In this blissful state, these three notes organize themselves into a chord made of the proper co-creative partnership: mind serving heart, heart serving soul, and soul serving what I call the Divine Harmonic.

4. The power of chanting and toning. To comprehend the potential of sound, we have only to read the Hebrew Bible, which tells us how the powerful vibration of trumpets and the drumbeat of marching feet toppled the walls of Jericho. In modern times, we have seen this same harmonic phenomenon in a California bridge undulating in resonance with the frequency of wind blowing all around it. The bridge eventually shattered. Equally unpleasant to many of us is the deep, rumbling bass of automobile speakers passing by and thumping our beating hearts into palpitations.

Such "entrainment" sensations can be reversed by a meditative thought, word or rhythmic sound, all of which will rapidly shift any frequency pattern. People have always used chanting and toning to evoke altered states of consciousness and heal with the power of sound.

I've recently read, but have not yet verified, that Egyptian hieroglyphics show adepts using the vibrations of their voices to heal their patients' energy fields. It makes sense intuitively that if we fully understood the capabilities of frequency and vibration, we would be able to heal anything.

The racial memory of these abilities, lost through the ages, has been restored to us by Cayce and others. Researchers reading of Cayce's glimpses into the distant past believe that the mastery of sound technology is how the Mayans, Aztecs and Egyptians moved 100-ton boulders hundreds of miles and up mountainsides to build megalithic temples and pyramids.

David Elkington's meticulously researched book, In the Name of the Gods, claims that Egypt's pyramids were not meant to be burial chambers, but were frequency modulators for spiritual ascension and for quickening the mummified dead. Like sacred cairns and stone circles, pyramidal structures amplify the resonance of chanting voices and may have been used to raise the frequencies of the crystalline human body into harmony with the crystalline healing frequencies of the Earth. We know today that this frequency, 7.8 hertz, is a fundamental brain wave frequency of meditation and spontaneous healing by hands-on practitioners.

Hindus, Buddhists and many Westerners harmonize the body-mind by chanting the familiar "Om" or singing the word "Hu," the Sufi and Eckankar seed sound for God. (Eckankar is the present-day Religion of the Light and Sound of God.) The vowel sounds in these words move energy through the abdominal, cardio-pulmonary and cranial cavities of the body when we focus on feeling this movement of loving, divine energy, rather than how we sound to others. The key to chanting and toning is being present to it.

Here's a powerful chant from ancient Egypt, resurrected in trance by Edgar Cayce and explained in a little book, Music as the Bridge, published by Cayce's Association of Research and Enlightenment (edgarcayce.org) in Virginia Beach. I've asked people, during my talks and workshops, to sing this chant and always hear beautiful harmonic overtones that carry the singers into deep meditative states. Cayce said this particular chant awakens our ability to draw ourselves into the divine and the divine into us. See if it works for you!

Surrounding yourself with a sacred circle of love, chant the word ar-ar-r-r--e-e-e--o-o-o--mmm. Fill your pelvis and navel with this rich, resonant "ar-ar-r-r" (as in ah-r) and with your whole body sound the "eeeeee" (as in eat) in your solar plexus, moving the breath upward and directing the "oooooo" (as in oh) to the heart and throat, then the uuuuuu (as in blue) to the base and center of the brain, and the "mmmmm" (as in room) to the forehead and frontal lobe of your brain. You will feel this last sound vibrating the very bones of your head.

If you sit with this chant for awhile, you'll feel the currents of spiritual love coursing through your body-mind, and a river of peace will carry you into the Oneness of perfect love. Share your peace and healing by visualizing your loved ones and Earth's people basking in joy.

Joy is the natural outcome of these pathways into the Oneness, for here we feel the perfection in all things and know ourselves to be one with the Divine. All pain, loss and sorrow fall away in this journey toward the Light and Sound of God. In the beautiful music of this illuminated Oneness, we soar on wings of freedom and joy, at home in our place of true belonging, forever.
